Dr. Ryland Morgans

Performance Director

Ryland is currently Performance Director at Everton FC, a position he has held since his appointment in December 2017 by Sam Allardyce. Ryland’s remit involves looking at monitoring player training and match load, recovery, nutrition and supplements, injury prevention, rehabilitation, strength and power, and integrating the coaching, medical,fitness, psychology and analysis departments to work collaboratively. He has previously worked at Crystal Palace, as Head of Fitness and Science at Liverpool FC, Swansea City FC, where he gained experience working with top level players. During Ryland’s time at Liverpool FC he assisted not only Brendan Rodgers but Jurgen Klopp. Ryland has also been the Head of Performance with the Wales National team from 2010- 2018 working with the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Joe Allen and Ashley Williams. As a coach, Ryland holds the highest European Licences available - UEFA ‘A’ Licence and UEFA Pro Licence. As a coach educator, Ryland has been the Head of Sport Science and Research for the FA of Wales Coach Education department since 2001. As an academic, Ryland has gained a PhD in Football Science in 2014 publishing over 25 peer reviewed papers specialising in areas such as physical and technical demands in professional football, immunological, hormonal and neuromuscular responses to match and training load and nutritional strategies in Premier League players.

Dr. Markus Tschopp

Head of Performance Analysis & Sports Physiology

Markus studied in human medicine University of Berne, Doctoral thesis in medicine University of Zurich.

He is an exercise physiologist and performance analyst in Swiss National Football team since 2004: World Cups: 2006, 10, 14, 18 / European CS: 2004, 08, 16. Markus as well is the head of sports physiology in team sports at the Swiss Federal Institut of Sport Magglingen since 2006, specializing mainly in football, ice hockey and handball. He is also responsible for physical aspects in the talent development program ‘Footuro’ of the Swiss Football Associtation and consultant for the youth national teams. Topics: performance diagnostics, training monitoring, talent development, high performance management in football.

Tom Allen

Lead Sport Scientist

Tom currently works as Lead Sports Scientist at Arsenal Football Club. He has held this role since July 2017 and was previously at Aston Villa Football Club for 6 years. As well as holding a BSc and an MSc in Sports Science, Tom has done extensive work on the relationship between training loads, performance, and injury occurrences.

Marc Rochon, UK

Marc has worked with head coach Zlatko Dalic and the Croatian National Team since November 2017. Before this, he enjoyed a successful spell with Al Ain in the UAE for three and a half years. He began his career by working with Southampton FC for two years alongside obtaining his BSc (Hons) in applied sports science from Southampton Solent University supporting the first team analysis and sports science departments. After this, he enjoyed a year-long posting at Tottenham Hotspur as their development squad analyst. After this, he worked in Portsmouth for four and a half years progressing from the head of academy analysis to head of performance analysis.

Darragh Connolly

Darragh joined the Sports Science department at Juventus FC at the beginning of the 2015-16 season following three close collaboration seasons while working with Mapei Sport (IT). His current role involves the organization and management of all Sport Science Testing programs throughout the club. His main roles include monitoring players' physical condition, providing physiological support, and developing applied research areas within Juventus's multi-disciplinary team.

 

Edward Metgod

Edward Metgod Scouting & Analysis

Edward is the owner of Edward Metgod Scouting & Analysis. A former national team goalkeeper, Edward played for HFC Haarlem and Sparta Rotterdam over an 18-year career.Edward was first-team coach at AZ Alkmaar assisting head coaches Louis van Gaal and Co Adriaanse for almost six years. After two years as head coach of Telstar, he joined the KNVB Dutch National Team as a tactical scout/analyst assisting head coaches Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, and Dick Advocaat. Edward was the technical board advisor for Sparta Rotterdam for about a year. Edward also coached several U-12 to U-19 youth teams over the years.

Andrés Martín-Garcia

Fitness Coach (U19)

Andrés is the fitness coach for FC Barcelona's U19 squad and works at FC Barcelona's Sports Performance Department. He is a PhD student with master's degrees in injury prevention and recovery in football, high performance in team sport, and high level of technical performance (RETAN). His research interests include training load, team sports, prevention injury, and strength and conditioning.

Rob Mackenzie

Scouting & Recruitment Consultant

Over the past 16 months, Rob has worked as a consultant at clubs in the Premier League and also in Europe tasked with introducing evidence-based scouting methodologies, defining recruitment strategies and providing specific player recommendations. Prior to working as a consultant Rob occupied full-time roles at Premier League clubs; Tottenham Hotspur (head of player identification, 2015-2016) and Leicester City (head of technical scouting, 2011-2015, first team performance analyst, 2009-2011), and worked in the Championship with Derby County (director of recruitment, 2016).

Within his work, Rob combines the identification and profiling of players from a data perspective with live scouting, a unique combination which takes him across Europe on a regular basis. Rob has a PhD from Loughborough University (2009-2014), which focused on the experience-based learning and reflection of both professional football players and coaches, as well as a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in sports science (psychology) and an MSc in the psychology of sport, both from LJMU.

Chris Barnes

Chris has many years of experience as a sports science practitioner within elite teams and organisations. A respected authority in the industry, Chris has previously managed sports science departments at GB Basketball, Middlesbrough FC, West Bromwich Albion, and Queens Park Rangers. Chris currently operates as a consultant to Catapult as well as a number of elite sporting organisations, advising on a wide range of technical and strategic initiatives related to the application and development of sports science.

Dr. Magni Mohr

Associate Professor

Dr. Mohr is 44 years old and is a world-leading expert in football sports science. He is an associate professor at the University of Faroe Islands and the University of Southern Denmark. He has formerly worked at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and University of Exeter, UK. He has authored nearly 100 original research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, of which 75 deal with match analysis, training and testing in football, as well as muscle metabolism and fatigue development during intense exercise and its link to fitness training. Magni has written four books, of which two (Fitness Testing in Football, 2012 and Individual Training in Football, 2014) are applied in football coaching courses all around the world. He is a former elite football player and coach and has worked as a match analyst for AC Juventus (1999-2003), scientific consultant for Chelsea FC (2008-2011), fitness coach for the Danish national football team (2001-2002), Deportivo La Coruna (2018), and the national team of Cameroon (currently). He is a FIFA, UEFA, and AFC instructor and teaches Pro Diploma coaching courses all over the world.

Adam Sadler

Adam started his career in football as a Scholar at Manchester United in 1996. Sadler continued at United for two seasons before signing a professional contract at Barnsley during the 1998-99 season. His coaching career began at Newcastle United in 2000 where he spent eight seasons. He has since held senior coaching positions at Norwich City, Plymouth Argyle and Manchester City. He also spent a season at Ukrainian Premier League Club, Tavriya Simferopol as Under 21’s coach during 2013-14 season.

Adam is currently working as an assistant coach and tactical analyst for Leicester City, a role he started at the beginning of the 2014/15 season. He holds the UEFA Pro Licence.

Kevin Lawless

As an alumnus of The University of Limerick's Sports & Exercise Sciences degree programme, Kevin joined STATSports in 2013 as an applied sports scientist. In 2015, Kevin was promoted to the role of senior sports scientist looking after key clients such as England FA, Barcelona FC, Juventus, Arsenal, Olympiacos, Galatasaray, the RFU, and the Carolina Panthers. During this period, Kevin led new staff recruitment and training while also being part of the Republic of Ireland backroom team during their successful EURO 2016 campaign. In 2018, he began his new role as head of account management, leading and overseeing all of STATSports accounts through a team of 30+ sports scientists.

Stephan Helm

Stephan Helm, Mag., Born in 1983, graduated in 2013 studying sports at the University of Vienna, where he specialized in football tactics. From July 2013 to December 2017 he was a TV analyst for the private broadcaster Sky Sport Austria and holds the UEFA-B license. He is also the author of the Football Handbook “Football Tactics: Correct Defensive Behavior in Space Coverage” published by Akademiker Verlag in 2016. As an active footballer he played in the 3rd Austrian League. Since January 2018, Stephan Helm is responsible as assistant coach for tactic analysis and video editing in the coaching staff of FK Austria Wien.
