Dr Paul Bradley is the author of the unique book ‘Football Decoded’, which was released in 2020. He is currently a Football Science Consultant for elite teams, national governing bodies and technology companies. He typically conducts translational work within an elite football setting that bridges the gap between cutting edge research and professional practice (e.g. not just research for research sake but work that adds value to the applied setting). One area he has pioneered recently is the contextualisation of match and training data and he is currently working with many elite organisations in this regard. He has published >80 papers and has >5000 citations in the science & football area.
Werner Helsen is a professor in the department of movement sciences at KU Leuven. His research interests include expert perception and performance, talent detection and selection (including relative age and late maturity effects), and load monitoring in team sports and association football particularly. As of September 2022, Google Scholar showed 11.751 citations, H-index=53, i10-index=115. His teaching involvements are in the motor control and learning field as well as in the area of performance training in team sports and football in particular. Since 1999, he has played a prominent role in UEFA as a sports scientist and training expert. Since 2015, UEFA has also engaged him in ‘Fitness4Football’ workshops to teach national team coaches how to use GPS-based technology to make players and the game better. He was involved in six UEFA European Championships and three FIFA World Cups. He also has extensive experience in the sport science support of youth academies, professional clubs, and national teams.
Matt Spencer is a professor in the department of public health, sport and nutrition at the University of Agder, Norway. His roles include: leader of the applied research laboratories; supervisor of post-graduate students related to the physiology and performance of individual and team sports; coordinator and lecturer of bachelor units relating to physical preparation and training in team and individual sports. Over the past 20 years, Matt has worked as an applied sport scientist involved in research and as a practitioner with various elite sporting programs, both in full-time and consultancy positions, including 10 years in the Australian Institute of Sport system. In addition, Matt has published numerous studies mainly related to the physiology and performance analysis of elite athletes.
Dr. Gerhard Zallinger graduated as a sports scientist at University of Salzburg (department of diagnostics and trainings sciences). During his extensive career he has worked as a conditioning coach at Austria Vienna, Panathinaikos Athens, LASK Linz and Austrian FA (U20, U21, A-Team since 2011). He is also a lecturer at the FA for several coaching educations, responsible for sports science issues within the association. He has published several national and international scientific papers
Chris Barnes has many years of experience as a sports science practitioner within elite teams and organisations. A respected authority in the industry, Chris has previously managed sports science departments at GB Basketball, Middlesbrough FC, West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers. Chris currently operates as a consultant to Catapult as well as a number of elite sporting organisations, advising on a wide range of technical and strategic initiatives related to the application and development of sports science.
Chris Loxston is the manager of performance and game analysis at FIFA based in Zurich, Switzerland. The recent integration of advanced performance data analytics and video analysis into FIFA Technical Study Group (TSG) analysis of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was the first step forward in driving a new approach through supporting expert tournament observations with advanced performance data analytics. FIFA’s TSG is responsible for the observation of all FIFA tournaments, both junior and senior across the men’s and women’s game. This analysis is then used to support and drive coach and player education and development around the world.
Chris started his career in sports performance analysis at the English Institute of Sport, where he supported British teams at the world, European and commonwealth tournaments along with the qualification to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2012 London Olympic Games. Chris then moved to Asia, where he implemented his performance analysis skillset within football working with both domestic and international football teams. Finally, before starting at FIFA in 2018, he supported the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with bespoke data analytics around injury occurrence hurt analysis within Olympic and world amateur boxing.
Aaron Briggs is going into his 11th year in professional performance analysis having worked in a variety of different roles at Blackpool FC, Preston North End FC and Manchester City FC. He previously led a team of seven performance analysts within the MCFC Academy, which aided the development pathway of players from U9 through loans into a first-team environment. Aaron currently leads a team of four performance analysts within MCFC first team who facilitate coaches, players and staff with a wide range of services with the aim of giving information to enhance performance. He recently acquired a UEFA A license in order to improve game knowledge and he has carried out extrapolated research on “Performance Analysis Delivery”.
Mikhail Zhilkin joined Arsenal FC in July 2018, for his first job in football. Previously he worked with the Candy Crush mobile game franchise, and had a spell in the sports betting industry. Besides football, he follows sumo wrestling.
Ronan Kavanagh began his career with GPS company STATSports in Ireland. Through STATSports, he offered sports science support to a number of the company’s clients across Europe, including Leinster Rugby, England Rugby and the Welsh national football team. Ronan is currently working with Burnley football club in the Premier League in addition to his ongoing work with Wales, having previously worked with Preston North End.
Tim Harkness began his sports psychology practice in Durban, South Africa, in 1998. He worked with a range of amateur and professional sports teams and individuals. He began to work internationally in 2007 with Indian Squash Player Joshana Chinappa, and in 2008 and 2012 worked with Abhinav Bindra, who become India’s first (and so far only) Olympic Gold medallist in 2008. In 2009, Tim joined Chelsea FC and has been there ever since. He is currently head of sports science and psychology. In the summer of 2018 he served as team psychologist to the Saudi Arabia Football Team at the 2018 World Cup, helping them register their first World Cup match win in a generation. In August, he was asked by the Saudi Minister of Sport to assist with the Pyramids FC project in Egypt. Currently he is helping the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League cricket competition. Tim is director of Harkness Coaching, which consults to hedge funds in London. He is also a cycling coach, and works with world class squash players. Tim is married with three sons and is a competitive cyclist and squash player.
Nuno works in S.L. Benfica since 1996 until the present day. Since 2017/2018 as Head of the Performance Analysis Department – Professional Football. In 2009-2017 as a Sport Performance Analyst (Benfica LAB). In 1996-2009 as a Youth Football Coach.
He has a large educational background got in the Faculty of Human Kinetics, Lisbon University: post-graduation in high-performance football coaching; master’s degree in physical education; and graduated in sport science with specialization in football. Nuno holds a football coach license - UEFA “B” and is a co-author of many scientific studies and papers.
He is also a regular guest speaker/educator on various football and sports events. Nuno has also been an invited teacher in the Faculty of Human Kinetics and in the High Institute of Educational Sciences, teaching advanced game analysis and tactical performance analysis.
Marco Fumagalli is a product of the Royal Belgium Football Association´s finest coaches school. He worked in different roles such as tactical analyst, assistant coach, and head of scouting in international clubs such as Galatasaray S.K., FC Internazionale Milano, Valencia CF, Genoa CFC, and ACF Fiorentina with a particular focus on both data and the tactical aspect of the game.
Prof. Dr. med. Johannes Scherr is a specialist in internal medicine, sports medicine, nutritional medicine and preventive cardiovascular medicine. He is co-founder and CMO of LOEWI GmbH. Furthermore, he is chief physician and head of the University Centre for Prevention and Sports Medicine, University Hospital Balgrist, University of Zürich, and former head physician of the German Ski Federation (DSV) and head physician of the German National Team in Alpine Skiing. Additionally, he was responsible for the medical care of the Olympic team alpine skiing, ski cross, free ski and ski freestyle in PyeongChang 2018, Sochi 2014 and Vancouver 2010.
Jose Galindo is Fusion Sport’s general manager for the EMEA region. Fusion Sport is a global leader in human performance software and the developer of Smartabase and Smartspeed. Jose has qualifications in finance, engineering and sport. He began his finance career in the early 2000s as a cost modelling analyst with AT&T. In 2004, he joined one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, GlaxoSmithKline. In 2010, Jose joined Fusion Sport General Manager, EMEA
and has been pivotal in developing and expanding business in Europe and the Asia Pacific regions. Jose’s deep understanding of human performance technology allows him to deliver world-class products and solutions to clients on a day-to-day basis.
Can Erdoğan was born in Turkey. He received his BSc (2014) in the USA and MSc degree (2015) in the UK. Always with a passion for football, Can has acquired FA Level 2 in coaching football on top of noteworthy work experience in the Premier League environment, particularly in the field of scouting and statistical football data analytics. Working on various data sources, e.g OPTA, Can has built one of the most advanced player and match rating models in the industry in order to provide data-driven player flagging and shortlisting for scouting and performance assessment for performance analysis departments at Crystal Palace FC. Combining his technical data analytics expertise with his experience in the football industry, Can founded Real Metric Analytics in 2016. Can is currently providing data analytics services, through his company, as a senior data analyst lead for Google and Football Club of Fenerbahçe from Turkey.
Georg Mészáros is a Senior Management Consultant, Project Manager and Organizational Designer with a powerful combination of more than 20 years of experience as IT professional and intensive background in systemic organizational development, internal and external consultancy and new agile forms of organizations that are a good fit for the challenges of the 21st century. His core expertise is running strategic IT projects with related organizational changes that very often go hand in hand. Beginning with delivering towards opening the Allianz Stadion in Vienna in summer 2016, Georg Mészáros partnered with SK Rapid Wien to drive digitalization at the club across the entire organization.
Roni is a football coach veteran with coaching experience at all levels. He is a board member of European Football Coaches Association / AEFCA; Former CEO of Israeli Football Coaches Association; Head coach of senior national women’s football team 7.5 years / 53 International Caps; Highest level UEFA PRO license football coaching credentials; Instrumental in getting men’s and women’s football off the ground in the USA. Roni is also conducting and managing lectures, clinics and seminars around the world - Europe / USA / Australia - Coaches and players development. Roni holds an MBA in International business with extensive senior management positions in the Hi-Tech in the USA, Europe and Israel.
Patrick Hogan is a graduate of the sport and exercise sciences program at the University of Limerick. He currently is a senior sports scientist at STATSports, a global leader in athletic performance monitoring technology. Patrick provides support and consultancy to many of STATSports' key clients with a particular focus on real-time data application. He has also worked directly with multiple Irish GAA teams.
Rory Campbell is owner of C&N Sporting Risk, a predictive sports analytics company based in London. With a background predominantly in gambling and using predictive analytics for sports betting, Rory has worked with a a number of Premier League clubs in the UK to help them better understand and use data to evaluate and predict performance. C&N Sporting Risk now operate in a number of areas using the most advanced data and analytical processes to better inform decision making in player and club acquisition as well as the risk in the betting and insurance sectors.
